You’ll soon be able to get Almond Brittle with Salted Ganache ice cream in San Jose.
Salt & Straw, the Portland-based scoop shop best known for its handmade, small-batch ice cream, is opening its first location south of the Peninsula. Owners and cousins Tyler Malek and Kim Malek will unveil their latest shop inside Westfield Valley Fair mall in March 2020. This marks the fifth Bay Area location for Salt & Straw.
“Westfield Valley Fair is a gathering place in the heart of Silicon Valley, a convergence of so many towns, where locals visit for the best in retail and hospitality,” said Salt & Straw Co-founder and CEO Kim Malek in a prepared statement. “We are humbled and excited to join our new neighbors and serve residents in the community.”
Since opening their first location in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights, where flavors like Sightglass Coffee Cashew Praline and Dandelion Halzelnut Chocolate Cookies & Cream still cause lines down Fillmore, the scoop shop has made a mark with its devotion to local ingredients and purveyors, and provoked taste buds with its more unusual seasonal offerings.
You can expect the same nostalgic Salt & Straw design at Westfield Valley Fair, with curved oak edges, parquet wood inlay, custom terrazzo flooring and abstract waffle-cone walls. When it opens in March, the shop will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily at 2855 Stevens Creek Boulevard.
As the Maleks spread their scoopers to the South Bay, we’re left with only one question: When will they open in the East Bay?
