Letter: The evidence against the president is clear - Salt Lake Tribune

Dear Sen. Romney,

I write this on a flight from — where else — Washington, D.C., to my hometown of Salt Lake City for Christmas. I wish I’d had you as my seat mate. Instead I’m reaching out to you this way to implore you to follow what I believe to be your conscience with regard to the impeachment and conviction of the president.

On March 3, 2016, you gave a rather blistering speech about then-candidate Trump, calling him dishonest, reckless and wholly lacking in temperament to be president. The history of the his presidency has proven you to have been correct and wise. I believe you would have been a dignified, respectful and forthright president, and not just in contrast to the current occupant. (Because of this, I further believe you are safe from any Trumpist primary challenge in Utah in four years.)

So now history calls on you to step up and do the right thing again. The evidence against the president is clear; his obstruction incontrovertible. Show the world again the difference between you, who honorably ran for the highest office in the land, and the man who unfortunately has debased it. History remembers the courageous, not the cowed.
