Former Utah GOP Chairman Thomas Wright is running for governor - Salt Lake Tribune

Thomas Wright, who led the Utah Republican Party as chairman between 2011 and 2013, has entered the race to be Utah’s next governor.

The state elections office tweeted on Thursday that Wright had filed his intent to gather signatures for the governor’s race, one of two routes under state law for partisan office candidates to qualify for a primary election.

Wright joins an already-crowded field for the Republican gubernatorial nomination (current Utah Gov. Gary Herbert is not seeking reelection), which includes Utah Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox, former Utah Gov. and U.S. Ambassador Jon Huntsman, Salt Lake County Councilwoman Aimee Winder Newton and businessman Jeff Burningham. Former Utah House Speaker Greg Hughes is also expected to enter the race and one Democratic candidate, Zach Moses, has declared his candidacy.
