Letter: The America that I remember - The - Salt Lake Tribune

As the editors of Christianity Today face a backlash for an editorial expressing a heartfelt view centered on Christian values, I ask myself, at what point are the costs of President Trump’s behavior so large that his supporters are prepared to say that something – anything – crosses a line?

The United States of America is the largest, most powerful democracy in the world. Has the character of our nation become so diminished that fear of rebuke by President Trump silences voices in the face of hate-filled rhetoric that at its worst pushes lies?

Granted, we are living with a president who sees no bounds to wielding the power of his bully pulpit against citizens who would dare to challenge him, from the smallest of perceived slights to the more substantial critiques.

Can we not be better stewards of the values enshrined in our Constitution and championed by an America that I remember that led with a certain moral authority.
